DRIVING FROM NYC AND ALBANY AIRPORTS:

New York City's major airports (EWR, LGA, JFK) offer the most direct routes, greatest variety of options, and most competitive prices compared to smaller regional airports such as Westchester (HPN) in White Plains, NY, Stewart (SWF) (1 H / 50 miles) and Albany (ALB) (1 H 15 mins / 75 miles).  If you are used to quick lane changes and comfortable with defensive driving, LaGuardia/LGA or Kennedy/JFK airports might suit you fine. Once you pass The Bronx you could consider more scenic routes by taking the Saw Mill River Parkway to the Taconic State Parkway; just beware of deer. If you feel more stressed by city traffic, you might find Newark/EWR better for you in terms of getting into your rental car and accessing interstate highways without too much bridge/tunnel action. After a few changes, which could include the scenic Palisades Parkway if you wish, you hit I-87 N.  Any way you go, beware you will likely hit some toll roads. You may also want to consider avoiding rush hours on the roads if you can.  Car rental rates will be more reasonable from airport locations compared to city neighborhood outlets, however if you're planning to spend some time in the city and need a place to park your car, doing a little homework on affordable garages will help to avoid expensive valet fees/daily rates at Midtown hotels. Of course, we're glad to help in any way we can: please ask!
