ARRIVING BY TRAIN
Connecting to NYC Train Stations from NYC Airports
From Newark-Liberty Airport (EWR)
From New York-Penn Station (NYP) to Rhinecliff Station (RHI)
Amtrak offers multiple daily departures with travel time around 1 hour 45 minutes each way from New York-Penn Station (NYP) to Rhinecliff, NY (RHI) Station. Tickets cost between $28 - 52 each way. Cabs to hotels in nearby Kingston: $25 / 15 mins; cabs to Rhinebeck town center: $9 / 5 mins.
If departing from NY-Penn (NYP), be advised you will have an easier time if you board early, avoid rush hours and enter the trains on the lower platform level instead of waiting in lines on the concourse level - they don't check tickets until you're on board. To maximize your view, travel during daylight (sunset 5:30 pm in November) and sit on the left-hand side of the train to see the Hudson River as you head north.
From Grand Central Station to Poughkeepsie (20 miles south)
You could also take a less-direct train Metro-North Commuter Train with travel time 1 hour 45 minutes each way from Grand Central Station: Hudson River Line to Poughkeepsie, 20 miles south of Rhinecliff. Tickets cost about $24 each way. Cabs to hotels in Kingston: $53 / 30 mins; cabs to Rhinebeck town center: $45 / 25 mins.
